Protonmail is the best for burner e-mails, prob the best free email service in terms of security/functionality and not having your inbox crawled to build an advertising profile. I wouldn’t consider it secure (use with a VPN if you’re ever doing something the feds would potentially investigate) but it’s certainly more private than Google
I wouldn’t trust VPNs for much more than avoiding copyright strikes from your ISP but I’m willing to be corrected

Yeah, that’s fair — I was thinking about a case of the french(?) feds getting the IP address of a left wing activist from protonmail and tracking them down based on that, but I suppose depending on the VPN that might just add one extra layer the feds have to go through to find you.
