Am I being the dick here for finding the whole Jubilee thing kind of gross to celebrate an empire built on slavery and conquest?
Royalists like the fairy tale version of the queen. They want to believe the hagiographies of the official propaganda, they don’t want to engage with the reality of the royal family being a bigoted bunch of oligarchs, leeching off the hard work of proletarians. They don’t want to hear about how non-whites couldn’t hold non-manual jobs at Buckingham palace, how the royals have intervened politically to prevent their huge unearned wealth from being taxed or about the crimes of the sweatless creep Andrew, prince of nonces.
They also don’t like to think about the class structure of the monarchy, how all the people invited to the fancy dinners comes from the upper echelons of society, while common people only get to wave and cheer as the royals do their act.
the thing is just to look at the queen is to get some sense that she’s a nasty and surprisingly bitter woman.
she’s such a difficult person to like that the attempt to like her on a personal level requires self deception
Does British royalists also have this thing where they demand that you admire the royals, even though you are against the monarchy as an institution? Like “But you have to admit that the queen is doing it really, really well” said in a tone so insistently that it almost becomes menacing?

yes and they also keep talking about how the queen is hard working for not retiring despite the fact that she’s no longer even up to the minescule amount of work being monarch entails and any other job would fire you once you can’t do it anymore
they demand that you admire the royals, even though you are against the monarchy as an institution
I think it breaks there brains a bit that I dislike the queen on a personal level more than even the institution
