In society there’s no real third space between home and work that you can socialize with people as relative equals and not spend money.
In school you get that every day at least once in recess and lunch.
In that way it genuinely is a better way of living.
So I guess yeah, alienation.
It’s an obsession with the idea you come in a child and leave as a Man. High school is the coming of age story nexus and we’re obsessed with that in the USA
as a yank, I can say high school fucking sucked but my life generally has gotten worse so I tend to view it with rose-tinted glasses
It’s a self-contained institution with a clear progression between levels an natural end-point and a seperation from other spheres of life. Once you leave the educational system you enter a system where time and space function entirely different. Creeping neoliberalism eroding ever further any semblance of separation of spheres and time. Work is never done there are no conclusions.
My classmates all thought they were gonna get super rich (because of the stupid fucking entrepreneur project where the chud teacher said if she could rent out an inflatable castle for hundreds of dollars at birthday parties then you can be a billionaire) and live in mansions. Anyone who wasn’t a trust fund baby now works soul sucking bullshit corporate jobs.
