Yeah, being in contact with someone you’re brokenhearted about is torture. I did that for a couple years after my college partner broke things off.
After we had a good amount of time and geographical distance, and I moved on and dated new people, we were able to rekindle a healthy friendship. It helps that I’m in a great healthy relationship with a guy I love and that my ex is trans and embraced her gender and I’m straight (although at the height of our romance I would’ve been with her no matter her gender).
Now I have a great friend and there’s zero pining. I wouldn’t have thought it possible 5 years ago, but things change.
There’s a special kind of emotional closeness in those friendships, they’ve usually seen you without the mask you put on for the world so you can be real with them. They’re also a great source for perspective with your new relationships - they know you’re habits and pitfalls - but don’t ask unless you’re ready to hear it lol
Yeah there was more disgusting things but I think it’s prudent to stand firm against people who try to garner support for reactionary/ racist/ fascist notions by claiming it’s endemic to their experience of living in poverty. I see it too much… “calling out to attractive women is just how it is in my neighborhood lol you rich kid scolds wouldn’t last a day here.”
And the you see even true blue leftists rally around that because (a) the current American online left does trend college-educated white so there’s collective guilt and (b) the left purports to value lived experiences as valid in building a world-view
And yeah lived experiences are valid! But when that results in a claim that is reasonable for someone in a extremely powerful and well- equipped organization to use lethal force against someone in a systemically oppressed and brutalized community because of a knife… no no no no no
Good foresight. Although it’s amazing just how much they can make about communism [see blobjim’s comment].
In the same interview, they said that it was almost certain that asymptomatic people wouldn’t transmit the virus.
And I’m not upset they didn’t know things early on, it’s just the bravado over-confidence in the “Western method” of avoiding asking the populace to do anything and just letting the experts figure it out. They bent the limited data to their notion that something as goofy and paranoid as everyone masking up must be pointless.
