Best (potentially only good?) part of American enculturation is the instilled frothing hatred of monarchy. She’s a racist money-hoarding useless fuck who protects her pedo son and represents centuries of oppression and enslavement and destruction. Can’t wither away fast enough, hope the whole institution is buried with her, “Platinum Jubilee” refers to the big shiny keyring the state is jingling.

I think that was general complaining about nostalgia culture and adults carrying their regressive childhood passions forward as totems of their identity. Then she became (or always was, honestly) a transphobe.

Meyer absolutely does, they come out in the writing. I revisit it to remind myself how much awful shit I missed as a kid and how it fit into the zeitgeist of that time, but also to sus out what drew me to it in the first place, since I’ve had a wide range of opinions on it.

I’ve been considering identifying as either bi or pan lately, having been friends with queer people for over a decade and having discussed the nuances of each, and as far as I can tell it’s Cross-Gender-Spectrum Attraction Purple and Cross-Gender-Spectrum Attraction Yellow. It’s basically “pick which NB flag color goes with the pink and blue”.

(yes I’m leaning bi simply because I like those colors together)

It’s an honored pastime.

I went from superfan to antifan very quickly. Probably after a Cracked article. People righteously tearing it to shreds taught me a lot about reading with a critical eye, so it’s an interesting barometer for me.

JK Rowling is an actively campaigning bigot and the franchise historically centers her as the grand visionary guiding it all. And the pro-slavery shit was always appalling.

People hate Twilight for all the wrong reasons, but it is a remarkable multi-faceted gem of fucked up bullshit. But Meyer (probably) isn’t a loud, active bigot against people I love, so I have more fun revisiting it.

If you don’t need to kill animals to survive, killing animals is imbalanced violence for treats. Weaponry has gotten advanced and we’ve become numerous and efficient killers. If people want the cat-like thrill of precision-shot killing, they should try target practice, laser tag, or one of the thousands of FPS games out there. In the end it seems to come down to this idea of “it’s not as personally significant/fun if I can’t feel the kill/taste the body” outweighing both harming/slaying an animal and making yourself a killer. It’s encouraged. Just doesn’t sit right.

It’s kind of like slang, kind of like scifi jargon. Cognito = cognitive here, so a brain hazard.

Unclear. In the absence of confirmation, I opt to leave them be, particularly with other options available.
