The fact that if you’re born you just have to complete life is insane to me. One of the reasons I think abortion should be legal is because if your own mother has the conviction that you’d be better off not existing its probably for a reason, that you’re born into some horrid circumstance or you’re going to be physically or mentally disabled. Sometimes a mother will have a child like this because abortion is illegal or because of religious reasons and it ends up being the wrong decision. If you’re born under this circumstance you can’t kill yourself without being called a coward and knowing that you’ll be ruining the lives of your loved ones and friends. We tell people who are suicidal that they’re obligated to keep living because of this and also because ‘things will get better’ without ever considering that we could be wrong. Everything is on a downward trajectory. Everything is in decay and there are people suffering right now who are all but gurenteed to continue suffering, who should have never been born but are being forced to live out the rest of their lives in agony. We need to legalize suicide, offer assisted suicide, and radically de-stigmatize suicide. The most difficult thing we need to do though is convince people that no matter how much it hurts them, they might have a loved one who wants to die and is better off that way.
