That clip of the suicidal man in the middle of the highway makes this the most confronting compilation I’ve seen from DCOA.
I can’t imagine how I’d feel if I was in that scenario and I didn’t react as fast as that driver did.
If the screenshot in the article is to be believed, it literally has a typo, missing a quote for Don’t, which is usually one of the most common ways to spot suspicious activity and malware, and now, as someone working for an MSP, I have to now tell those users who see this that confusingly, yes this was legitimate and it was a Microsoft ad. The font isn’t exactly standard either, the buttons look like Arial which also just looks suspicious.
With logging, one thing I deal with at an MSP is BSODs. Maybe I’m just not experienced enough, but it feels like the event logs in Windows only help if it’s something obvious like a poorly written or buggy application. If it’s a driver issue they just are near useless. I usually end up downloading WinDbg (which has such an archaic UI on Windows 11) and read the minidumps, and it’s like a 75% chance it’s helpful.
In the meantime on *nix, yeah there’s literally logs for just about everything if you look in the right places.
I went down this route because I had an iPad 9th gen and I wanted to get more away from Apple for various reasons, ended up getting a Samsung tablet and don’t feel much better off at all. Granted, it’s an entry level 8" $200 tablet, but the touch screen is much worse (the bezels are so thin it’s difficult to hold without touching the sides of the touchscreen), the interface is way worse in my opinion, and while I’ve adb’d the shit out of most of the crapware that comes on it, installing a custom ROM voids the one year warranty and I know how my luck is, that the damn thing will die a week after I flash it, so it just feels even less private than an iPad.
I actually bought it to watch YouTube and read articles in bed on something that was bigger than my phone but smaller than my current 10.2" Apple iPad, and I find myself just using my phone more anyway because it’s so clunky.
Maybe better quality tablets (even the Pixel Tablet) are much better, but I really think the state of tablets on Android is terrible, whereas the experience is fairly polished on the side of Apple (although it took them another year to add features like the new lockscreens to iPadOS). I miss the days of when my Nexus 7 was current, and it worked really awesome for a good price.
I’d imagine it’s a more generic term for a small PC (or maybe an Android TV box) running something like Kodi (home media centre program), and Kodi would have access to a drive (usually a network drive) full of pirated MP4s or whatever. I’m sure there’s even more elegant solutions out there, but you get the gist.
For me, I was a curious and inquisitive 15 year old that wanted to try out something different to Windows. I didn’t really have any gripes with Windows at the time, so I tried Ubuntu and it went from there. I mostly remember after that installing Xubuntu on everything because it was just so lightweight and to this day I still love Xfce.
