Hey man, don’t smoke it. I still get cravings like crazy too and I stopped smoking cigarettes 10 years ago. Instead of shaming yourself for feeling the cravings, remind yourself how shitty you’re gonna feel after smoking just one. I always ended up feeling way worse if I broke down and bought a pack than if I didn’t.

Well, long story short, from the Silmarillion, he was basically Satan’s lieutenant in Middle Earth cosmology. He is basically evil but also wants power and revenge for his previous losses.

It’s the same even in "prestige " jobs. Like my dad, I’m an academic, and the differences in salaries and expectations (in teaching/ training/publishing) between now and 30 years ago is so fucking insane and depressing.

I do think he’s a faux intellectual, but not a charlatan or a grifter, only because he buys his own bullshit.

I think the key point to come down to is that he’s just an obscurantist. Serious academics will work as hard as possible to make their ideas as easy to understand as possible, regardless of their complexity. General relativity, world systems theory, and quantum physics are all complex but it’s possible to describe their general ideas in somewhat comprehensible terms.

I remember plenty of zizek struggle sessions on the reddit, and cannot remember once when people are able to do the same for Zizekian Lacanism (for lack of a better phrase). Where Zizek is correct it is usually trueisms, where he is new he is usually incoherent.

He is clever and witty so he can be funny sometimes (so he is good at dealing with dummies like Peterson), but this has no bearing on his wider “work”

I mean, the article in CA is written by an academic who teaches philosophy at Oxford I believe, and the person "ripping it apart " is a random youtuber.
