If you’ve got real questions you should go for it. I emailed him to ask him some general advice on balancing academic and activist work and he responded quickly and extremely kindly.

Please don’t email him with memes though. Let the old dude rest.

Simple: %Progressive=100x(# of votes with Pelosi)/# Total Votes.

She’s Yaas Slaaay Kween progressive, so clearly voting with or against her is the litmus test.

Oh no, and I already mailed in my ballot for Markey. Why couldn’t she have let me know sooner?

Obviously this was always gonna happen, and I’m 0% surprised that they are ignoring the “blacklist people who primary sitting Dems rule.” But… what is their excuse here? Is Pelosi pretending she never said this? Is everyone just agreeing to ignore this? Like, even a self serving journo must realize they could get a bunch of clicks asking about this right?

This is again an inaccurate description of what happened in the thread. This is literal gas-lighting.

This is an inaccurate description of our interaction AND what I had posted in the now deleted thread. Feel free to post our DMs

I honestly wanted to ignore this whole thing as it really depressed me as yet another leftist space being consumed from within because of the most minor disagreements.

However, because I was tagged here, along with some of the other comments, I feel like I need to add my 2 cents.

First off, as of this moment, I do not believe anything I said at any point was inappropriate, especially in the context of a silly post about the Red Scare podcast. I was calm and respectful and serious until I was treated rudely. I did not ignore the OP’s point, I did not even disagree that some (perhaps most) of the criticisms of vocal fry came from conscious or unconscious sexism. The only point at which I think anything I wrote could be described as inappropriate was sarcastic posts after I had already been responded to extremely rudely and lied to/about. Because this was a post about a stupid podcast, I did not think it merited trying to get any mods involved at all, especially since I believed then, as I do now, that anyone reading the thread would see context and I had no problem with that.

Furthermore, I was never given any reason why any of the posts rose to the level of needed to be deleted other than there were “reports.” Reports of what, I was not told. To my mind these were probably report brigades by the same people making posts lying about what I had said in the comments. Even if this were the case, there are posts of mine that were deleted that under no circumstance could be described as “inappropriate.” For example, the (I think polite and good faith) response I made analogizing to racists “hating” Jazz music - a post in which I explicitly stated that I could have phrased my previous question in a better way. To my mind there is nothing objectionable in here, other than the lack of 100% obsequious agreement with the mod who called me sexist to begin with.

I also would not have thought to describe the interaction I had with @quartz242 , despite the fact that I found it completely useless and insulting. However, as I feel their description of our interaction posted here is inaccurate I feel again I most put in my piece.

I did contact them, as I felt that deleted my comments while leaving up replies to me that lie about what I had said, falsely describing me (implicitly and/or explicitly) as a misogynist or a harasser, was entirely unfair and painted a pretty clear and inaccurate picture of me. I was explicit that leaving these comments up made them complicit in the lying smears, and quite honestly I felt gas-lit by the situation. I was essentially told that the comments were not going to be restored (fine, whatever, this was a post about Red Scare after all), but I said in that case the replies to me lying about me should be deleted as well. I did not ask for the entire post to be deleted, just the ones which, without context, painted me as a harasser. I feel as if this was pretty explicit on my part and I give @quartz242 complete permission to post quotes from our DMs if they wish.

Honestly, deleting the entire thread with the modlog reasoning that threads “devolved into misogyny” is worse in my point of view, as it turns the implicit argument that I am a misogynist into an explicit one.

Edit: I now see in quartz’s other comments here they are explicitly lying about what I had said and done in the now deleted thread, claiming explicitly that I was harassing a marginalized person. This is entirely unacceptable.

My wife used to be an adjunct professor of English lit at a wealthy private university in southern california, and used to teach this story.

All the students would say " of course I would leave Omelas." It’s amazing how dumb you can be and still get an expensive education.

Totally cool that all the comments here got deleted, but not the responses lying about why I said in them. Totally a cool thing to do.
