A lot of HKers fall into this false sense of superiority due to being a colony and having a massive headstart on development, even though said development was largely driven by acting as an entrepot during China’s economic liberalisation.

It’s really shocking the amount of 傻逼老外 that are accepted as China experts on Reddit. I spent most of my life in China and it was always a trip meeting people like that.

I’ve also noticed there’s a notable chud contingent of Americans in Taiwan. I met one who thought if Taiwan allowed everyone to own guns they could stage an effective guerrilla war against a Chinese invasion. Weird shit.

In addition to that Western media would much rather report on the success of Western or Western-aligned nations like NZ and Taiwan rather than Vietnam’s massive success.
