It’s pretty ballsy they just go into bill statistics while skipping over that in the US only the rich have the power to craft legislation anymore. You can tell the rich you don’t like what they’re doing and the rich will tell you what they are going to do to you. The US as an oligarchy is such an intuitive thing you really have to fuck your whole brain up to deny it.
Like they want to talk about how when the middle class and rich disagree blah, blah, blah. The middle class aren’t allowed to hold seats in government. The disagreement exist so far as there is disagreement within the oligarchy. The middle class has its opinions, but the government is riddled with legislative measures that would nullify their impact on anything. It reminds me of how every time we do presidential elections there is a new crop of young, hopeful people who learn the rules and realize everything is fake in the primaries.

“They can just ignore our votes and pick someone else if they want?”

i’m 100% convinced in the mirror universe the guy from Cheaters is the one whose career blows up instead of Rogan. I have no idea what his politics were, but it’s the key divergence point that would’ve given us a mariam williamson presidency and made vampires real.
I wonder how many people associate the last stimulus check with Biden specifically since technically it’s all stuff that was proposed under Trump and got delayed heavily by both parties.

I’ve never been able to square these attitudes with the way America functions. Do people just never think about how many of the people getting evicted, thrown into poverty, discriminated against and everything else also own dogs? Do they not think about how gearing the entire infrastructure towards highways also killed a ton of dogs? Or even that all these bombing campaigns kill a ton of pets along with the humans,. It’s fucked up to not value the people in the first place, but even the selective empathy is so hollow it throws me for a loop.
I was thinking about this with Glenn Greenwald’s post gloating about courts shooting down an effort to compensate black farmers that were discriminated against and then a moment later he’s complaining that nobody is taking care of all the shelter dogs. It’s like, what the fuck do you expect the end result of your politics to be? If the people are not taken care of why do you expect the animals to be?
There were similar stories about Hezbollah before with some western observers freaking out about the Spetnaz influence. I imagine most forces will eventually look the same unless China starts exporting masses of unique military equipment.
