We really have to step up our game now

Sigh, there’s something Matt said a while ago that really resonated with me and I’ve thought I should make a post to see if anyone remembers when he said it and what exactly he said, but then I see stuff like this and I’m like, never mind, I’m good.
This wiki has to be a bit. Like the whole grill pill thing is explicitly against this kind of obsession over internet shit.

BRIAN: Look. You’ve got it all wrong. You don’t need to follow me. You don’t need to follow anybody! You’ve got to think for yourselves. You’re all individuals!
FOLLOWERS: Yes, we’re all individuals!
BRIAN: You’re all different!
FOLLOWERS: Yes, we are all different!
OK, I went ahead and did a search, and didn’t find it. I think maybe he said it on the podcast? Basically, I think he was talking about how helpless you can feel sometimes when you see how insane and wrong things are. The part I definitely remember is him saying, “And you say, ‘What the fuck?’ because all you can say is ‘What the fuck.’” When I see terrible things and think “what the fuck,” I think of that. I replied “What the fuck” today to terrible shit happening in Denmark. What am I going to do about terrible shit in Denmark? So I say “what the fuck” because all I can say is “what the fuck.” Sorry, this is kind of a downer and an attitude that I really fight against having, but it has stuck with me.
Oh for sure. I’ve definitely heard him talk about stuff like this. Like feeling totally powerless in the face of this awful shit, and how even some of our stupidest responses are really just a frantic reaction to knowing there’s nothing we can do. To be fair, he does usually follow it up with something about building community and taking care of the people around you.
