China ain’t degrowing, they’re growing, like rapidly.
You can totally argue it’s a more well planned, sustainable growth (I’d argue that), but Xi ain’t exactly making people go back to living in mud huts and farming rice now is he.
China is growing the economy to alleviate stuff like extreme poverty. The west “grows” the economy to make more useless plastic shit while people sleep under the bridges that they built. It’s easy to see why one would be against degrowth in a nation that is rapidly developing, versus one that is already developed by comparison.
Also China is the one building most of the cheap plastic crap for the west because capitalism ™ If we actually applied degrowth and stopped making so much useless stuff in western countries, China would become more sustainable and efficient as a side effect
