I’ve been meaning to switch for a while now as it somehow gets more and more unusable. The new desktop update is the last straw for me. But I’m not as up-to-date on tech stuff as I once was. Assume I’m basically tech-illiterate. Any suggestions?
Proton Drive works great. Its also encrypted and completely anonymous so you can share stuff with strangers. Not sure how much storage you get for free though.
The code is open source, its very easy to see even they don’t have access to the information. Even if they were willing it would be impossible to turn anything over to feds. Calling Proton an op is an op to keep people using one of the truly private services out there.

Sorry to burst your bubble. Also it is irrelevant if it is open source. They can literally just spy on your stuff directly since they own the servers. You have no evidence that they don’t hand all of your info over to anyone that asks.
Thanks! That sounds perfect. I can probably at at least start moving over my most important files, and honestly I’m so fed up with Google at this point I’m ok with non-free options.
Check OwnCloud and NextCloud too. They’re really full featured and you can either buy server space from them, or run an instance yourself on a server you’re leasing/own
