Another question - obviously you named your username after Joe Hill. Do you know anything about the relationship between the Mormon Church and the execution of Joe Hill? Joe Hill is usually presented as part of the larger early 20th century labor struggle in the United States, but reading this thread it seems like the political and social environment of Utah is very different from the rest of the US due to the huge of influence of Mormonism. I’m wondering about the labor struggle operating in such an environment, and if it had any effect that made labor struggles in Utah different from the rest of the US. Or, do you know if anyone has written anything about this, labor struggle happening in an environment heavily influenced by Mormonism?

Hmm, I wish I knew more about labor movements in Utah. If you’re Mormon, it’s likely you know a neighbor or friend or member of your ward (parish) who can help get you a job through church connections. Lots of people put their missions on their resumes, it’s a code word that basically says “hire me, fellow Mormon!”

I think a lot of Mormon workers don’t agitate because their boss is part of their community, so when an outsider like Joe Hill comes around, it’s easy to rally the base and nip it in the bud.
