It’s definitely an explanation, but I’d hesitate to say being senile and having a grudge or wanting to obey a senile old man with a grudge justifies sending armaments, money, diplomatic support and intel to a dictatorial colonial regime to aid their efforts in suppressing a decolonial Marxist revolt, especially when it means siding against the rest of international communism.
