the normal origin story told is they were ww2 vets dealing with ptsd who didn’t feel comfortable re-entering society so they lived rough riding cheap bikes and being hooligans with their bros and breaking norms

Nah that’s pretty much ny experience in the US too. You kinda just run into the same guys over and over around town. Hoon around a bit together, help em when they break down, next thing you know you’re at a rally.
