Don’t misunderstand me. I hate fascists with every fiber of my being and think they deserve nothing but :pit:, but at least they’re up-front about the horrific violence their system entails and their willingness to slaughter us en masse if we try to create anything better.
It’s the difference between the guy who stabs you in the chest while yelling “FUCK YOU” and the guy who stabs you in the back and then tries to act all innocent, wagging a finger at you for swinging back and talking about how unlike you, they absolutely abhor violence.
Yes. The Near Enemy vs. the Far Enemy.
The Far Enemy is…far. They’re The Other. Nobody can really get worked up about them. There’s not really a lot of energy generated by being vocally and publicly against them. It’s dry cheese.
But the Near Enemy is right here. They’re part of the ingroup…or used to be until they alienated themselves. This makes the dislike of them much greater, and much more visceral. Witness the establishment Republicans hate for the Trumpists. They can’t really get bothered about the Democrats (and honestly they have far more in common with them) but boy, do they hate the New Right. They had them snookered for decades until Trump came along and wrecked the whole thing.
