…this isn’t even true?! Like MLK’s assassination kicked off the 1968 riots, the largest social uprising in the history of the US, forced Congress to immediately pass the Civil Rights Act of 1968, and galvanized the Black Power movement and made the Black Panthers explode in popularity, forcing the federal government to continue passing civil rights legislation to combat their rise, and eventually even forced the USDA to offer free breakfast to kids in an effort to compete with the Black Panther Free Breakfast program. George Floyd’s murder uhhhhh… got Nancy Pelosi to take a knee and the Democrats to fund more police department “trainings.” Insulting to suggest literally any “impact” that resulted from George Floyd’s murder happened outside of radicalizing a who bunch of folks and laying bare the moral bankruptcy of this nightmare we currently live in.

But Old Tired Joe got to show his “compassion” by meeting members of the Floyd family and talking to them on the phone. That’s important.

The riots were because of literally 30 years of focused organizing that started under WEB Dubois. The backlash of the culmination of that work was intense. We didnt have any left wing activists quite like MLK. Jr.

The left is far weaker than those times.
