Oh sure, but that happened with Iraq too; there was barely any pretense, and the US invaded them like 2 years after Dick Cheney announced Iraq was part of the new “Axis of Evil”.

They’ve had two decades of the US demonstrating that you can’t trust them when they get horny for war. That’s a pretty good lesson even before they start thinking about what it means if the war is actually on the continent.
That’s true, maybe they are learning; I wonder how much behind the scenes bullying Biden is trying to do to get them on board. Supposedly he’s going to be talking about Ukraine with Germany’s new Chancellor on Feb 7th, and the same Chancellor has abstained from meetings with Biden (and supposedly Germany isn’t sending anything to Ukraine)
Maybe they’ll keep giving him the bird, would at least be a nice change of pace
