Like, hear me out, Libs have always sucked but I remember in High School I was friends with a lot of self IDed capital L liberals, and while they had plenty of :brainworms: of their own, they were generally at least fairly anti-war, not anti-imperialist mind you but generally on the dove-ish side of the spectrum. Several of them attended anti-Iraq war protests and whatnot.
Now suddenly it seems like everyone to the right of Marxist-Leninism is a bloodthirsty hawk. Idk if that’s just social media astroturfing by lanyard types, polling stats seem to suggest the base of the Dem party is less interventionist than the party itself. But, idk, it’s weird how this demographic went from being, at the very least, skeptical of US foreign policy, now all of the sudden wants to nuke Moscow.
yes. libs are only anti-war during republican presidencies. they become eager participants in empire whenever someone from their team is in high office and talk a lot about the solemn responsibility america has to invade, shoot down planes, launch cruise missles at critical infrastructure, and isolate people/governments that do not play ball.
Bill Clinton publicly did imperialist shit in Somalia, Kosovo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Yugoslavia, and, America’s favorite target, Iraq. and libs were all about it, every time. he famously stayed out of Rwanda during the genocide, i guess because it wasn’t on the NATO chessboard, there was no oil, and there was no chance of anything socialist happening.
i knew some absolute L.A.-based Hollywood DNC volunteer goblin who loved to go to bat for Obama’s drone strike program. see, killing people with drones is very cool and progressive, because it’s cheaper than boots on the ground and keeps troops out of harms way. the concept of blowback just doesn’t register with these people. like if you said, “using religious fanatics to fight the soviets is very cool and progressive, because it’s cheaper than boots on the ground and keeps troops out of harms way” as a clever retort, they would not see the connection.
