The coasts around Helsinki used to consistently freeze enough that you could just walk to small islands near the shoreline during winter

It was really rad, felt like you were using cheat codes in real life

Walked across a frozen lake in the middle of the night in Minnesota once.

I had nightmares about the sounds for years afterwards.
