In a post revolutionary society there would have to be gun control to help manage counter revolutionary action. Outside the context of the citizens militias people would only be able to own firearms suitable for hunting (bolt action rifles, break action rifles/shotguns, etc). There is pretty much no reason to allow the average citizen the ability to own a semiautomatic fighting rifle in the post revolutionary society outside the context of a people’s militia.

The solution as I see it is gun control, but in a society where such a thing would be equitably enforced. Other important solutions would be education, building functional communities of support, ending the proliferation of white supremacist/other chauvinist ideology, and providing more opportunities for democratic participation in society for young people (students committees at schools, etc). Of course actually improving the quality and availability of health care will improve this as well.

For now? I don’t think this society has the capability to solve this problem. I think they will continue to militarize the police until we will need to pass through an armed military checkpoint ala colonized Algiers to enter a shopping mall or school.
