gotta say its pretty fuckin dangerous to help a drowning guy without any equipment or ropes or sticks or anything, and in the video the guy was under a bridge with no way for anyone to throw a rope (if there even was one) or use that rake to grab him because its a solid 20 foot drop. jumping in is an absolute death sentence

that said, i wish those cops tried to help him :officer-down:

Yeah, they should have tried tossing things in if possible but jumping in without water rescue training and weighing heavy vests is against every good guideline imaginable. You don’t want to create even more victims.

This applies to everyone btw. If you ever see anyone drowning and aren’t professionally trained, do not get in the water with them. Throw things that float in to help or try to reach them with a stable object but do not get in yourself. Drowning people are not acting rationally so they can and will pull you down with them.

Cities need to bring back lifesavers near municipal lakes like this.

They ditched them over time when they were vandalized but they used to be everywhere because only recently could most Americans swim.

cops probably use runflats and a spare tire is heavy as hell, easily 30+ lbs. it’s like throwing an anchor to someone

They could have called someone with more training. Please don’t defend the pig’s actions.

It’s unfortunate but that’s likely just not true. You’re unconscious within about two minutes or so, and in seven you’re near/already dead. Nobody could manage to get there in that time unless whatever water rescue experts they have happen to be located extremely close, which is possible but not guaranteed.

I agree they should still try immediately tho to get dispatch in and calling up the pros.
