It’s just hard to satirise these people Verhoven tried to satirise fascist aspects of US culture but those aspects are so mainstream that to Americans pointing them out is like pointing out water to a fish.

I was thinking about that when we were discussing whether the BAYC Apes were intentionally racist depictions of black people, and part of the reason I was skeptical of the thesis is that the ambient background racism of the US is so thick and pervasive it’s hard to tell when something is being racist intentionally or if it’s just mirroring the racism that exists everywhere.
