So how necessary to torrenting are vpns these days? Haven’t messed with it since the late 00’s/early 10’s.

if you live in the states you will get an email from your ISP that you violated DMCA sometimes. i got like 5 of these already not sure they actually matter. that said, i figure if I get enough of these DMCA notices they will either cut off the net or report me to whichever agency is in charge of enforcing that so i try to minimize it as much as possible via a vpn. its also a good idea to cut off your ipv6 if you are doing that

Optimum pulls the plug on your connection for 24 hours every single time they recieve a notice. In general, all the last mile ISPs are also enourmous media companies which have an incentive to guard intellectual property jealously.
