Like every time I read the comments for any movie/show that features anything other than a white dude as the lead, everyone is like “tHe w0Ke cRoWd WiLL LoVE ThIs!!1!”

It’s especially bad for anything Disney, which according to them, is a communist factory for LGBTQIA+ PEDO GROOMING or some other conspiracy nonsense. Granted, Disney is fully deserving of scathing criticism, but for different reasons.

Has anyone else noticed this? It’s just weird to me because I view torrenting as a very anti-capitalist activity, but that seems to be lost on them?

might have to do with torrenting mostly occupying a certain age group and demographic now. Younger crowds don’t torrent, they either don’t pirate at all or use streaming.

i remember torrenting and piracy groups being the same as what you’re talking about even like 20 years ago. They always had a large amount of weird libertarian tech bro chuds involved. Every piracy oriented IRC channel I was in would have regular talks about chud adjacent conspiracy theories or they’d casually throw around racist slurs. It took until gamergate to coalesce them into more focused political derangement though. I remember getting kicked out of a torrenting group in like 2008 because I asked them to stop saying slurs.

so I guess what I’m saying is torrenting is probably full of the same people as it was back then

The 00’s libertarians love the Wild West aspect of piracy, but obsess over the value of what they pirate. :libertarian-approaching:
