The people bitching on reddit can go fuck themselves. Aside from their shit politics, they’re personally awful people as well. They also seem like they genuinely want to live in a foreign concession from which they can subjugate their own little colonial fiefdom.
My first exposure to these assholes was through a video of one of the ex-expats on youtube claiming that he’d been the target of an attempted assassination in China because some people on a forum complained about him. Like no shit, who wouldn’t want to kill these people after listening to them speak for more than two seconds?
It’s also now in vogue for white American men to harp on and on about how “China/Japan/Korea is actually THE most racist country.”
Yeah, because someone asking to take photos with you on the street is totally the same as dozens of unarmed black people getting gunned down by cops every year.

I went to Shanghai about 8 years ago and was with 4 other americans, one of them a super tall and young black man. People stared and asked for pictures literally everywhere we went, but it was always from a friendly place and the guys in my group kind of loved the attention, lol.
