Small pre-processed produce like this is often purchased by people who have trouble cutting things for themselves. So like, some elderly people and people with certain disabilities.
I don’t know why anyone would need a single tiny piece of pineapple like this, but I’m hesitant to criticize it as an able-bodied person. There’s probably some obstacle being addressed here that I’ve just never encountered.
More obvious examples would be things like pre-peeled garlic, pre-minced cilantro, diced onions, stuff like that. I used to scoff at it before someone corrected me.
I would agree but I feel like for the cost of the packaging and the cost to the consumer they could provide more pineapple than just this little bit. And I think that if we were really trying to care about providing for those with different needs, well, we could have a produce version of a deli where someone is paid to cut and weigh these things out before individually wrapping in less harmful (idk I’m not an expert but I figure a light weight saran wrap is less impactful than this sort of heavier plastic) material on top of being portioned out in actually useful portions.
I don’t use pineapple for anything so I might be in error here but to me this is like putting… two cloves of garlic in some hard ass clam shell package, just seems wasteful
