If you didn’t pull a tick off of it, its not likely to be a tick bite. I usually don’t get tick bites looking like that unless they’ve gotten pretty well stuck in.
Could be a mosquito bite? Some other blood sucking insect that flies around?
Maybe a chigger bite . They tend to itch like crazy pretty soon after being bitten. Lucky you only got the one bite.
They’re the worst, and they often come in swarms. Like, folks’ll get hundreds of bites.
Can attest to that. Stood in tall grass and got covered ankle to knee, maybe 30-40 bites. Begged for a cortisone shot before I chewed my legs off like an animal caught in a trap. Thankfully the shot worked and I got relief. I think what makes me hate them in particular is they always go for where clothing is tight, socks, pantylines, under the band of a bra. Just really good at finding some of the most irritating places.
They don’t burrow, but the effect their bite has causes a thing that feels like something is burrowing into you.
From the internet:
What happens when you get a chigger bite?
“Chigger larva will attach to your clothing and move to your skin to feed. The chigger larva will release a liquid chemical into your skin to kill skin cells (digestive enzyme). The dead skin cells form a tiny straw (stylostome) for the chigger to drink your skin tissue. The chigger’s chemical causes itching that is very intense for the first 24-48 hours before slowly going away over the next two weeks. Chiggers will fall off of your skin if you begin to scratch.”
