It does mean that, from our perspective, daylight appears to extend later in the day, though? That’s the point?

The extra sunlight comes from the time the sun is up but you’re sleeping. It’s there for the experiencing.

Yes, I’m aware. But I’d like to come out of work and not have 15 minutes of sunlight left, and that’s not something that comes down to my own choices

Go to sleep earlier, get up earlier. Relative to the sun those would actually be at the same time anyway. Yes capitalism affects when you can do such things based on work schedule, but that’s what needs to change, not the clocks.
