idk maybe we can have a sharing session to check out eachother’s cool ideas and projects we have, just a thought haha-jk-unless.
Kind of? A magic artisan can have a theory system of knowledge for why heating and rapid cooling a piece of steel produces a harder tool. This may include spiritual or religious beliefs which will impact how the magic manifests. But what he must do first is produce an actually hardened piece of steel. The way I envision things is there being a dialectic between the depth of the understanding on a scientific level and the freedom of the magic. If an arisan had modern metallurgical knowledge he’d have a more powerful magical control over the physical properties, but woulnd’t be able to imbue the aura of the Weeping Sun or whatever.
What does the magic do then, cos simply saying “i know heat hardens metal so i will heat metal to harden it” isnt exactly magic thats just understanding cause and effect haha
Magic takes physical phenomena and takes them beyond that. A blade that is simply heat hardened is just that. One that is magically hardened will hold an edge much longer and will scratch even diamond, provided the method has imbued enough energy in it. Going more soft magic, a given culture may not even think of it in terms of hardness, but have a concept of a “cruel” blade, which encompasses the hardness but ads an element of spiritual acuity which cuts your enemy’s resolve as well.
EDIT: lol I got drunk and double replied. Sorry :)
Lol, I’m doing a terrible job of explaining this. The way it works is a person needs to understand the thing they’re working with. To make something magically hard you need a theory of what hard means. On a sensual level: having a feeling for it, and on an abstract level either through mathematics/physics or theology/spirituality. You then use that to build an abstract magical structure in you mind/soul which is then imbued with the energy of the world through action.
