But on this platform, cis people also have to list their pronouns to not be misgendered because there aren’t profile pics or any other way to guess someone’s gender on here. There are plenty of cis people who don’t want to be misgendered, so there’s no reason that someone would assume someone is trans just because they have pronouns listed.

In that case, isn’t it less of a trans issue and more of a women’s issue? It doesn’t affect trans men negatively if everyone assumes they’re male, but it does affect women negatively whether they are trans or not.

Not in an online space, obviously, but isn’t “having one’s gender assumed” a goal for a lot of trans people? I am trying to imagine the scenario described by a trans woman (iirc Contrapoints) in meeting with a bunch of cis women and they all go around saying “she/her” – something you know they don’t know when it’s all cis women, and so it’s more awkward and dysphoric than just assuming she/her. I think there is an unsetteled debate between “gender is good, mine was just assigned wrong” and the “gender is bad must go” schools of thought. My point being that some people believe in good faith that declaring pronouns should be situational.

I don’t disagree with you, it’s not really my struggle. But I am just seeing the discourse here over requiring pronouns acting as a proxy for what I understand to be a bigger disagreement in the community. I am not really interested in wading into the debate. But you are getting to the heart of when you talking about “gender and gender expression” not being synonymous.
