This got posted before but mainly the discussion was about the dunking on Matt Taibbi, which is good and interesting, but Yasha is an interesting dude and he talked about something that’s been knocking around in my head for the last week.

He talks about the potential for capture by the audience market, putting forward a discussion between all three of them about how they feel a financial pressure to move their words in one direction and away from others.

Since so many people here who receive their info from subscription/follower-based content creators, I think it’s worth thinking about for all of us - that there is a sort of human centipede relationship between creator and consumer.

Anyhow the discussion begins around 1:33:30 and is only maybe 7 minutes long or so.

I know that this isn’t exactly mind-blowing stuff necessarily but I think it’s worth keeping in mind if you find your own perspectives being influenced by the content creators you consume - like who else is in their audience, helping mold the perspective you’re hearing?

I resent it because of how quickly they will brush past topics like Twitter censoring Ukrainian “filtration” of civilians, their public lynchings, which you can find on Telegram (which is a despicable app allowing Nazis free reign while complying with copy strikes but I digress), censoring Ukrainian war crimes. I feel like there’s room here to talk about the way Twitter works with the US government better. They can be really hit-and-run with their coverage. Especially Xinjiang stuff. Like they’ll cover Zenz’s writing for two hours, but they still come around speculating in many, many episodes about how “we all know China’s doing something in Xinjiang” (wtf Mark)
