Yes, it depends on what kind of transformer you’re using. The neon sign transformers are much safer to use than the microwave units that people salvage. Everytime you read an article about someone dying it’s because they were using one from a microwave. I don’t remember what the specifics are but it’s a difference in voltage I think, I’ve been grazed by one of the leads and it just kind of wakes you up.
