I love my SO’s parents but they are these people, almost certainly because they were at one point barely scraping by, but that hasn’t been the case for like 10+ years. It almost feels like they are doing it out of spite, although I’m not sure who or what they are spiting.

The purest form of spite is when you can’t even begin to imagine what it is you are opposing. It’s a non-forgiveable, non-falsible spite that can never fade.
