i dont have much nice to say about u/liberalsocialist so i wont say much, but their presence here was entertaining and ill miss having their posts that were rich with comments
our loss of u/ides_of_merch however is a true tragedy. i was always so excited to see their BMF-esque posts, they were perfect. they got banned for sectarianism but i think it was a misunderstanding :(
What did u/LiberalSocialist do to get banned?
They seemed to be young and naive, but I never saw them do anything to deserve a ban
they were being hostile a lot the past couple days. got into fights that devolved into libsoc calling another user a boomer over and over again while turning into a corncob
also some weird transphobic/ misogynistic comments while railing against the existence of men

I thought they were alright because I never took what they said seriously. I mean, for the majority of the time they were here, I mostly flip-flopped back and forth between whether they were a bit account or not, and there’s few things more pathetic than getting mad at a bit account.
Outside of having a fairly idealist conception of socialism, they didn’t really espouse reactionary viewpoints. Stuff like asking whether MLK is a liberal (he was until the end of his life) or stanning AOC (controlled opposition to sheepdog progressives back to the Democratic party) aren’t reactionary viewpoints. Likewise, I don’t see him as particularly hostile either. To me, online hostility means death threats or sexually harassing people in the DMs. Them calling people boomers because they’re malding over losing another online argument isn’t close to that, and it’s honestly pretty funny.
LiberalSocialist is a case study of why this website needs a block/mute feature. No, limply going “pls disengage” doesn’t fucking cut it because it’s obvious many people here can’t control themselves. The people who have a problem with LiberalSocialist can just block/mute while the people who are amused by their antics can continue interacting with them. And honestly, assuming they’re not a bit account, LiberalSocialist could stand to benefit from a block/mute feature as well.
