Star Wars be like: “sentient droids should be possessions”.

No, but seriously (sorry for hijacking your comment), it’s very surprising how none of the star wars writers/directors has tried to follow that route. You could make like 6 films merely with that concept.

They did, it was a joke plot point in Solo. One droid wanted droid rights and they locked her soul in the millennium falcon forever.

Karen Traviss did the Republic Commando series of books and they’re excellent. She’s the only Star Wars writer I know of that ever stopped to ask “what are the moral implications of breeding billions of sapient clones to fight in a war and what are the socio economic consequences when the war ends and we have billions of bred killers entering the job market”
