Well… I mean, the post-reconstruction Klan Terror would make a pretty good plot for a prestige TV series. The distant Republic invades, defeats the evil slaver armies, stations federal troops, things get massively better for everyone and there’s a ten year golden age of peace, prosperity, and progress. But then some political shit happens in the far away republic capitol so the troops get withdrawn and all the evil slaver army officers for costumed terror squads that gradually crush the newly emerging society and violently re-impose slavery while people fight desperately to stop them? It’s pretty fucking dystopian though, History makes for pretty depressing source material.
