might be the wrong place to complain about this idk honestly weird design choice. would prefer for their to be an opt-out option but i don’t really see that here.

Ideally one would refer to other users as user/poster/comrade, imo. But a lot of people on the internet end up using he/him pronouns for any unknown person. This usually prevents that.
It’s also a nice little reminder that there’s a real person behind that username you’re engaging with.
