There is something so fuckng elitist and corporation boot licky about taking a side in corporate competitions.
“Oh, you don’t have the latest popular toy? Ohohoho I guess you must like shitty graphics”
“Fartbox 3000 is better than the Fartstation X”
Why do people give a shit about stuff like this? Why are they so intent on being wannabe marketers for these corporations?
These are the same people who will roll their eyes if you shit on something for legit reasons (like transphobia and antisemitism in the Wizard game)
It’s just consumerist dick-waving while pretending to be consuming in a savvy way. I hate it.
I think what’s even worse (at least in gen z) is apple brand loyalty. The amount of jokes about “being subjected to green colored texts” I’ve seen, or the “androids take pictures in 240p,” is insane
I literally bought an iphone just because of peer pressure. When I had an android in high school my “friends” made a separate groupchat from me because apple turns off features like gamepigeon when an android user is in the group, I suggested they download an app like plato for games and they were like “it’s not the same” or “I don’t have the storage.” I also remember joining groupchats for school projects and someone would go “who’s the android user lmao”
It’s particularly weird when the most expensive phones are androids anyway. Surely the ultimate phone for flexing should be the rare stupidly expensive one that literally flexes or something.
Not that I ever encounter the whole green textbox derangement thing anywhere except reference to it in American media though anyway. Either :aus-delenda-est: never really fell to that particular brainworm or I’m too anti-social to notice it.
From what I’ve heard, the Apple elitism is primarily just an American thing. I don’t think Americans over like 30 usually give a shit, but I’m in college and most people still hate on androids for sure. I feel like other countries also use third party apps that work the same for all phone users, like whatsapp, telegram, facebook messages, signal, etc., whereas most Americans I know exclusively use imessages for regular texting.
Also, I remember sending photos to my friends and they’d joke about how bad my camera was when it looked really good quality to me, of course it was just iphone pixelating photos sent from non-iphone users!
That fucking sucks. Sorry you had to go through that. I hate Apple; mainly because of that brand elitism that fosters in its users and half due to their noodlebrained design “quirks”.
