I barely even think of myself as american, which deserves its own self-crit I’m sure but I definitely don’t presume to know shit about other countries.

As for the heritage thing, I think it’s something to do with how consumer-fied and sterile everything is here. Our actual culture is just a collection of brands and modes of transport to reach those brands, even the most capitalism-brained chuds get that that’s completely inhuman and so they latch onto anything close to a feeling of community.
