based on what, exactly? We don’t know Mary’s exact age, and she did consent as part of the story.

Yeah this.

They’re so many ways to dunk on Christianity that are true we don’t need to be making up incorrect things to dunk on

One more reason why New Atheists are insufferable. It feels like people who argue over Superman fighting Goku. Just getting heavily invested on whether a woman impregnated by angels provided enthusiastic consent is… weird.

afaik the consensus among non-gymnasts is that she would’ve been underage by our standards and even if you think god is the moral one, there’s a pretty giant power imbalance between a 14-25 year old woman and god or the spirit (i have no interest in unitarian/trinitarian infighting, go meet emo phillips by a bridge if you want that)

non-gymnasts

Is this a typo or a reference to mental gymnastics? As to your other point, He doesn’t actually have sex with her. A key point, problematic as it may be, is that Mary never had sex. Trying to put relations between an all-powerful deity and a human into the framing of human on human interactions is inherently not going to work, it’s like getting pissed at someone for not treating their dog like they treat their roommate.

mental gymnastics, yes, like what you proceeded to do. And we’re perfectly capable of passing moral judgement on deities, god should stand trial at the hague.
