this is part of why I don’t believe DeSantis has the nomination. Most Americans still haven’t heard of him outside of Florida, even regular conservative voters. Once the primary starts in earnest and more people are exposed to him, I really think the response will be confusion.

I know we’re online and it seems counter-intuitive, but most Americans have never heard of the conservative obsession with CRT and “wokeism.” They have no idea what that means unless they’re addicted to Facebook or twitter. Half of Americans can’t even describe what a trans person is, and yet DeSantis is going after transphobia as a main platform. There’s ambient and systemic transphobia in all sectors of American society, but we’re still at a point where the average person sincerely could not describe the difference between a drag queen and a trans woman, much less know the differences between things like medical and social transitioning. The average person is still very confused by the concept and most don’t know what to think.

DeSantis is putting his whole career on being the anti-woke guy, whereas Trump just says whatever hog reactionary gibberish flows through him at the moment, which seems to work a lot better

Interesting points thank you.

DeSantis is probably too plugged in for his (own career’s long term) good. I don’t think he’s totally off base though. He’ll mostly fall flat with voters because he’s got negative charisma.

He’s definitely not going to have broad support, but he’s going to run on transphobia as his single issue and generate waves that might stick.

It’s already starting to work with religious conservatives. I also have a family member who’s a young Catholic parent from a standard liberal part of the family that’s started liking DeSantis because he’s incredibly uninformed outside his church and Joe Rogan. He’s convinced that “Transgenderists” are trying to groom and harm his children and when asked how he’d treat his kids if they did come out to him he described abuse. And this guy wasn’t like this 3 years ago, this is all new.

So something is definitely happening, but I’m hoping that it’s not going to become widespread.

A couple months ago I heard him use the phrase “the current thing” and that’s when I knew he was GOP Liz Warren

God I hope you’re right, but I think the people on this site frequently underestimate just how much the chuds here fucking love him. For some reason they don’t think he has negative charisma like he so clearly does, they think he’s cool and owns the libs. I worry that will appeal to the chuds in other states just as much.

I hope you’re right, but we said the same about Biden. No one was supporting Biden until the media decided to at the last minute

Wait until closer to the election

I highly doubt the media will suddenly turn its coat and support DeSantis

They don’t have to support him, they just have to give him attention. They helped Trump more then harmed him by giving him negative attention

Idk, depends on how ‘in-the-pocket’ these things actually are. DeSantis is quite literally a goon for ‘the blob’, who have shown with the Ukraine situation that they have the ability to basically lock down the media for whatever purposes they want. If they choose DeSantis as ‘their guy’ and view Trump as too volatile, who knows what the media response will actually be. Trump still has the fact that he was already president going for him, but I wouldn’t count DeSantis out of the media sphere yet.

This is a really stupid reason, but I think DeSantis will lose because he’s short.

Jimmy Carter was the shortest president in modern history and DeSantis is shorter than him. The last president that was DeSantis’ height or shorter was McKinley who was elected in 1897.

That’s why he exclusively wears cowboy boots with a 2-3 inch heel. He could maybe get away with that in Texas but it’s weird even for Florida. Also, will he even be allowed to wear them anymore if he bans drag?

This shouldn’t be what determines the president, but American voters are incredibly nonsensical and stupid.
