Whenever I see reddit preppers talking about their preparation for when “shit hits the fan”, I can’t help but notice they seem to think they’ll survive on their little homestead either alone or with their nuclear family. They don’t seem too worried about the threat of civilization collapsing, they’re just excited that they’ll get the chance to larp as lords ruling over their lands.

But without any kind of community organization or serious wealth to hire a private militia, aren’t they just as fucked as the rest of us? Like, these people are going to be the very first targets of roving bands of raiders no matter how many tacticool, tricked out AR-15s they own, right?

I don’t remember who said it, but there’s a quote regarding climate change that’s something like, “The Apocalypse has already happened, it just hasn’t reached you yet.” And I really think that’s where we’re at right now. All you really need to look at is the way the most vulnerable are being treated to see the future for the rest of us. People are expecting collapse to be mad max, roving bands of raiders, but it’s gonna be cops and soldiers as far as the eye can see. Security for the rich is going to be the only system upheld, and I think we can all see that happening now.

I dont disagree with you but to challenge what you are describing you would need more than an armed commune of a couple 100 people. We are talking about a large scale revolutionary movement with the goal of overthrowing the ruling class. Which right now seems very far away in the USA. Like sure work towards it. (And im whishing you guys the very best). Im not even saying it cant be done even in the imperal core (im not a doomer) but how to do it best etc. is far outside my area of expertise.

Babysteps. Lately, I’m just trying to get people in leftist spaces to acknowledge the reality of our situation.💁‍♂️

The end goal of imperialism has seemingly always been a class with automated technological supremacy over the vast majority of the population, who are proletarianized and divided. It’s still up in the air whether all the moving pieces can be managed to get to that point before the wheels come off and we get some other kind of outcome though. The professionals automating that stuff for their paychecks need to be taken care of to get to that point, before the rug can be pulled. Maybe the ruling classes already have enough resources to make it happen regardless of the specifics.

Yeah, after reading The Jakarta Method, the concept of Fascism as the mechanisms of imperialism turned inward became very, very obvious. I guess what I’m largely trying to get at is that for all our talk of the horrors of what’s coming, we’re ignoring what’s here. Almost like we keep pointing towards the worse thing we can imagine so we don’t have to face the present. Revolutionary procrastination. :data-laughing:
