There’s a mod for a grid ruler and once you get your first coal mining operation running and a coal generator you get to stop worrying about manually loading your fuel. Also building foundations makes buildings snap to their grid. I admit that put me off a bit too but once I got coal flowing back to my main base everything got more interesting and allows for more complex designs.
