It has value to have a name for the people that form the left wing of the democratic party, and are opposed to it’s leadership. It’s a real phenomenon and you need something to name it to talk about it. Words like socialist or socdems are inaccurate and always lead to endless semantic debates. “Progressive” is the term that has lead to the least amount of semantic debates when people are trying to talk about the issue, so it’s the term people use. If you have a better idea, let’s hear it.
