Don’t know what you are looking for here are some things that I have quite liked:

1. Perdido Street Station: It is set in a steampunk dark fantasy universe and the setting is very well realised, also the author is a lefty.
2. The unbearable lightness of being: The prose is pretty good. It is written as the musings of the author told via some story he is cooking up in his head. It has a critical perspective towards the Soviet Union and Communism so might rustle your jimmies if you are very pro :tank:
3. Lolita: Is an uncomfortable read at times but it got me convinced I was reading the thoughts of a narcissistic European pedo. Also 10/10 prose.
4. Who do you think you are?: Strongly recommend. It is about a working class girl from a village in Ontario. The way she writes about things from a distance without judgement but still very personal is quite amazing.
5. The Bell Jar: Very good and very depressing.

EDIT: Oh I should say literally anything by Wodehouse. Every sentence is sublime joy.

A page turner about the history of a family: Thomas Mann - Buddenbrooks. Might be a little strange if you’re not german, but it is throughly readable and enjoyable.

A small mindbender: Bruce Sterling - Zeitgeist: A short weird little novel about a dude and his daughter and concepts of words and narratives and media…

A big mindbender: David Foster Wallace - Infinite Jest. Yeah, it’s a big boy and it is cumbersome to read, but it’s utterly funny and weird and captivating once you realize you can skip the parts about detailed chemistry descriptions in the footnotes and go back to the parts about the weird and strange people. Also Tennis (?!).

Funny, engaging and light reads: Anything by Terry Pratchett. My favorites are the books about the Watch. The fifth Elephant and Night Watch i re-read every year, they are just pure reading joy.

Loved that book hell yeah

for classics i actually enjoyed the great gatsby. I read the death of a salesman in school like 20 years ago and it stuck with me as anti-capitalist, but idk if it’s actually good or enjoyable.

I’m more of a sci-fi/fantasy reader honestly though haha :)

All the wild works contain plenty of quotes that are very common. From the speakers perspective and place in the stories that often give out more than being isolated as aphorism.

A lot of dunks on the good society in the books.

On The Road by Jack Kerouac is one of my favourites.
