literally all they had to do was use html5 <video> with no modifications. it’s not like they need a fancy custom player for hotkeys or preroll ads because they DON’T HAVE ANY. IT JUST PLAYS A VIDEO
Nah you don’t understand, if we create our own format with shitty quality options that don’t work, and the compression used is absolutele ass that requires 10mbps to play pixelated garbage (honestly YouTube at 480p looks better most of the time), and name it after the site, vreddit you see, we’ll make millions as users upload their content on vreddit somehow!!!11111
Yeah it’s not like YouTube operates at a loss on its own and Vimeo is dead, but surely reddit can reinvent the wheel of both video hosting, compression and playback and do it better than literally everyone else though magic somehow? Fuck it lets just add streaming too (actually exists, live streaming on reddit is possible now though broadcasts or whatever it’s called)
