Every thread about COVID on my local subreddit is full of people lamenting how many small businesses are shuttering.

Everytime I’ve gone biking in the ravines in my city, I’m seeing more and more tents popping up. I almost never see people on reddit talk about this kind of shit except when they need to defend landlords because “they need to pay their mortgages too.” I live in a pretty liberal neighbourhood and honestly this is the general feeling I get from people too. People are just oblivious that tons of people are losing their homes but god forbid their fav shawarma place shuts down, then we have to talk about how the pandemic is hurting the real people who matter.

There’s a food pantry near me and every weekend the line gets longer and longer. Breaks my heart, and things are only getting worse.
